Boating in Bath

This weekend Clare had booked a surprise trip away for my 30th Birthday, and sat me down on Thursday night to tell me that we’d be driving down to stay in Bath for the weekend – taking a narrow boat out on the canal for the day on the Saturday. So we set off Friday night to stay at Apsley House, a lovely little hotel situated on the hill overlooking the city. The hotel was superb – a four poster bed, roll top bath and great views out to the city. We then went to The Mint Room for a curry, which was fantastic!

Saturday morning, and we were off early to make the most of our day trip – the weather was perfect! It took a couple of attempts to park up first time – we had to negotiate two swing bridges that crossed the canal, not easy! But Clare did a good job!

After a day on the canal we returned to the hotel and got ready to go out for dinner at Soto Soto. If you visit Bath, you have to try this place. The food, atmosphere and the staff were fantastic – one of the best meals out I think we’ve had in a long time. Clare had asked them to sing Happy Birthday to me, which they were well rehearsed at – given they’d already sung it to four other tables that evening!

Sunday, the 1st of September, and we walked back into town past the Royal Crescent, which was quite spectacular against the clear blue sky. The trees in the park were showing the first signs of turning and the air felt quite Autumnal. We walked around the town and found a great spot for drinks and a spot of lunch outside Bath Abbey.

Here’s a few photos from our weekend away, thanks Clare!
