I tend to shy away from wedding photography – it’s normally an entire day of being on the ball, trying to never miss a shot – juggling with equipment, second guessing where the couple/guests/lighting will be next. But when my sister asked me to photograph her wedding, I was honoured – and incredibly touched that she trusted me with such a huge responsibility.

Towards the big day I started to research the venue, discover what other wedding photographers had done there – watch YouTube videos on techniques that were popular at the moment, what to do / what not to do. There is so much to learn…

On the 17th of December 2015, our good friends Sam and Matt were married at St Luke’s Church in Chelsea, London. They had asked me to take a few photos on the day – it was the first wedding I had been asked to photograph, so I was keen to make sure I didn’t miss a shot! After the ceremony we jumped in a London cab and headed to Albert Bridge for some more photos. The lighting was perfect! The sun was just setting, the bridge was lit with thousands of light bulbs, and Matt and Sam were incredibly happy.

This weekend Clare and I were invited to celebrate Hannah and Simon’s wedding with them, held in Wytham, Oxfordshire. Clare had been asked to sing during the ceremony with our friends – and so we all sat up on the balcony at the back of the church. They sang a lovely arrangement of ‘Make Our Garden Grow’.

After the ceremony we all made our way to the reception and enjoyed several glasses of champagne before the speeches, where our good friend Gerald the Gnome that our friends bought Hannah for her 30th birthday made an appearance!
Hannah and Simon had obviously put a great deal of thought into the day – lots of personal touches, which I think really makes the day ‘theirs’. One thing we all particularly enjoyed was the Ceilidh Dancing after dinner, which had us all spinning around the dance floor

We’re not long home from one of the most incredible weddings Clare and I have ever been to, the Wedding of our good friends Rach and Rich who got married this weekend in Henley On Thames. The couple were wed in a small church in the village of Remenham before a short boat journey took us all to the reception, held on the beautiful Temple Island on the Thames.

With our September ‘Indian-Summer’ in full swing, the setting could not have been more spectacular

On the 11th August, our friends Chris and Michelle got hitched on what turned out to be a gorgeous summers day! They had a big wedding in St Leonard’s Church in Eynsham, where some of our friends surprised Michelle with a parade of John Lennon’s “All You Need Is Love” as they left the church.

We all headed off to the reception at Heythrop Park and enjoyed a great wedding breakfast…

Here’s a good one! The wedding of Susie and Rob, which took place on a gorgeous August afternoon in full sun. A photographers dream! Clare was one of the bridesmaids, so having left work early, I got to the venue just in time to see her and the other bridesmaids walk down the aisle, followed by Susie and her brother, who gave her away.

It wasn’t long into the ceremony that we had to stop for a flypast that Rob had planned (or so he told us!) and soon enough, the couple were wed…

This post is a special one for me – the wedding of my sister and brother in law to be, Kate and Rob. Since I met Clare, both Kate and Rob have always made me feel like a part of the family. And when they announced their engagement last Christmas, I was excited at the prospect of having my first big family wedding!

I spent the morning with Clare, who had been with her sisters (Kate and Hannah) at her mums since the night before. When I showed up at 9am, Dave and Paul were out front preparing the VW Beetle ready to take Kate to the church. Kate arrived back from the hair dressers and the girls got ready for the big day – I, of course, spent the morning behind the camera…

Our very good friends, Amy and Tony – aka, the Jackalloys! Got hitched at the beginning of the month. Clare and I set off early Saturday morning for Stratford and found our good friend Locky in the pub, so we joined him for a Gin (or two..) before heading onto the church for some pre-wedding singing rehearsals.

The wedding was beautiful from start to finish. The happy couple had added lots of personal touches to the church and reception venue, which really made the day for us…

Last weekend Clare and I went to Morton In Marsh for our friends wedding, Fran and James. Apart from Fran’s Hen weekend where the girls went to Liverpool, we hadn’t seen each other since September! Since then, Claire and Tim have had a gorgeous little girl – Isobel and it was already her second wedding this year!

As soon as Fran appeared and walked down the isle with her father, the girls started to well up. It was a very moving ceremony, with a lovely reading by Fran’s father…

We’re back from our first wedding of the year, the wedding of Chilina and James in Sorrento, Italy!

Clare and I flew out on the Friday and met up with our friends, most of whom had flown out the day before and were already on the sea front. We spent the afternoon having a lazy lunch and several beers, before heading back to the hotel to meet the others and venture out for dinner…

Last September, Clare and I were invited to Sarah and Steve’s wedding in Surrey. They had a lovely church ceremony where Clare was asked to do a reading, before we all headed off to the reception, not far from Dorking. It was a great day, and a perfect opportunity to get to know Clare’s girl friends from uni and their partners a little better. We’d only had a couple of nights out together as a group in Oxford and Brighton that year, so there was lots to catch up on – especially as Fran…

On the evening of Saturday 18th December, Clare and I braved the snow and ventured out to the evening reception of Andy and Ali’s wedding – with boots, snow shovel and sleeping bags packed in the car, just in case!

We were fortunate enough to only live a couple of miles away from the venue. Other guests who were further away suffered long delays, as most of the surrounding roads were impassable or blocked. Some had no option but to turn back, and whilst I’m sure they were sorely missed that day by Andy and Ali, they had a beautiful wedding in the snow…

I’m pretty sure the last weekend in October is the best weekend in the year to get married on – not only because Clare and I have our wedding planned for this weekend next year, but also because of the amazing photo opportunities an Autumn Wedding offers! James and Kaff found a gorgeous venue here […]
