Babymoon in Cornwall

On the first week of September, Clare and I drove down to Carbis Bay near St Ives for our own little babymoon – our last holiday before our little one joins us next month. We had booked 5 nights in the Boskerris Hotel (our second stay together at this hotel, we love it!) and planned a couple of days out walking and lying around on the beach.

Monday was our only grey day – we spent the morning in Mousehole walking around the small harbour there. Some fishermen were working on their nets whilst a rather large green lobster was sat in the bottom of their boat. On the Tuesday evening we went to watch Aida at the Minnack Theatre – an outdoor theatre built into the cliff edge on the south coast of Cornwall. The setting was quite surreal, offering views out over the ocean towards Penzance. The hotel had provided blankets to keep us warm, and we took our own picnic. It was a great evening!

The rest of the week we enjoyed a mini heatwave on the beach – fighting off the seagulls whenever we tried to eat anything! They weren’t the only animals on the beach – we also saw quite a few seals that were very inquisitive – approaching many swimmers in the water and giving them quite a shock! Clare built a nice bump-sized hole in the sand so that she could lie on her tummy for the first time in months! A real treat!

At the end of the week we watched the St Ives lifeboat launch and dash out to sea to attend a call. Later that same day the lifeboat returned and the crew spent an hour maneuvering the vessel ashore and towing it back to the lifeboat house. The procedure was watched by hundreds of people around the harbour wall – and even the seals popped their heads up along side the lifeboat to see what was going on. I told Clare if we lived on the ocean, it’s something I’d love to do!

Here’s a few photos from our week.
