Simfest 2010

For as long as I can remember, Gary Oliver and team have hosted an event for charity every November, where they fly a fixed based flight simulator around the world in one week. Other teams from around the world participate, with their own home-built flight simulator connected to a virtual network that allows the teams to communicate as they fly. This year they raised a whopping £4000 for charity!

I joined the team in London onboard the simulator used for this years event, a Boeing 737-800 BBJ, taking it from San Francisco to Seattle. The immersion factor was incredible, with 3 projectors providing a wrap-around view through the cockpit windows – it didn’t take long to believe you were sat in on the flight deck of a real aircraft.

Here are some photos I took during the cruise – you’ll find some videos online at the simfest website of the takeoff and landing!
