Jesus Christ Superstar

For several years now, Clare has been a member of the Oxford Operatic Society, who put on musical productions in Oxford every six months. This year they showed The Producers and Andrew Lloyd Webber’s Jesus Christ Superstar.

I had been asked to photograph several of the rehearsals earlier in the year, which were great fun to shoot – though difficult to visualise the scenes without any of the sets or lighting. Fortunately, I was given the opportunity to attend the dress rehearsal in theatre. The costumes, lighting, stage props and set really brought the scenes to life! The different lighting in every scene meant I was constantly adjusting my ISO, aperture, shutter speed and exposure to freeze the action in frame. Most of these were shot at apertures of f4 and above, which resulted in many of the dancing scenes being blurred or too noisy at 6400 ISO – next time I’ll be taking a faster lens with me!
